The Foundation
As a young boy Steven was destined to be in the construction industry. By the time he was a teenager he spent most of his youth working in construction as his summer jobs. Having a passion for carpentry, real estate and working with people he formed a renovations, deck building, landscaping company while attending school at the University of Guelph. The success of this small business won him an Entrepreneurial Award under the Ministry of Skills Development. After earning a business degree in Economics with a love for science and a passion to be a entrepreneur the foundation was set for the genesis of WrightHaven Homes.
First Home Built
WrightHaven Homes was founded in 1990 when President and owner, Steven Wright, built his first home in Fergus. From some very humble beginnings the company grew based on 3 core values Quality, Craftsmanship and Trust.
The Early Years
In 1992, during the early years of the business, WrightHaven began designing its own homes. That same year, driven by a strong interest in science, a focus on how homes operate as systems, and a passion for improving construction techniques, the company underwent training and became certified in the R2000 building science home labeling program. At the time, R2000 was the premier program for building science and energy efficiency training.
New Firsts
In 1995, WrightHaven built one of the first R2000 all-steel homes on a quest to perfect home building principles. The reputation of a high quality leading-edge builder was established. Building their first community, Grandridge, on South River Road in Elora, WrightHaven Homes has since created many acclaimed subdivisions and beautiful streetscapes throughout Centre Wellington. As you drive through the area, you’ll quickly recognize these distinctive communities and their signature stone markers, each one a reflection of the pride and care built into every WrightHaven home.
High Performance Homes
By 2005, WrightHaven was building high-performance homes under the ENERGY STAR program. It was clear that homes built to higher standards of energy efficiency offered greater value — not only through improved performance and lower energy use, but also through more comfortable, healthier living spaces. WrightHaven has continued to evolve, embracing the latest technologies and energy-efficient practices that deliver comfort, performance, and lasting value.
Energy Efficiency
In 2015, WrightHaven was one of just seven builders nationwide commissioned by Natural Resources Canada to build a home demonstrating the potential of Net Zero housing. Designed to produce as much energy annually as it consumed, the home featured off-grid capabilities, solar energy, and a rainwater recovery system. It marked a new era in energy-efficient homebuilding. Today, WrightHaven continues that commitment by building to the ENERGY STAR certified standard, incorporating leading technology and energy-efficient practices that deliver comfort, performance, and lasting value for homeowners.
A New Generation
The next generation of WrightHaven Homes has embarked on a journey to continue the family business. Adam and Sarah Wright share the core values and vision of WrightHaven Homes and are committed to carrying its legacy forward while building the homes of the future.
